The idea and our aim
Our aim is to build games that translate ‘serious work tasks’ into multi-user online games. There are a couple more of these games out there, most notably the beautiful Games With A Purpose by the team around Luis von Ahn. With our Sketcharoo game, we believe to have a game specificially suited to visual communication, an important and exciting market in a highly connected world.
The game ‘Sketcharoo’ is inspired by the popular game Pictionary: two players, connected via Internet, play a round of ‘guess the drawing’. One person draws, one guesses, and we log these sessions and analyse how recognisable each drawing was. This enables us to deduct how descriptive these drawings are and also if there are significant cultural differences between different user groups. At the same time we compare the game-like survey against a conventional online survey to the two with each other.
These results are sought after in
- academic research, for example in psychology, teaching and learning, sociology, and anthropology,
- in design and content generation, for example for maps and sign systems, and
- in market research.
